This unique tour is part of an ongoing historical and cultural project to reconnect modern-day families in Germany with their ancestors who were held as prisoners of war (POWs) in Ireland during the First World War.

Led by Dr. John Reynolds, a retired Garda Sergeant and PhD historian, the tour aims to bring this forgotten chapter of history to life through storytelling, local insight, and guided visits to the very sites where these men once lived.

In collaboration with Treaty Transport, Dr. Reynolds is developing one and two-day tour experiences designed specifically for the descendants and relatives of these POWs. Together, we hope to reach out to the regions in Germany where the prisoners came from, find their families, and invite them to Ireland to follow in their ancestors’ footsteps.

This project represents a remarkable journey of remembrance, reconciliation, and rediscovery, a bridge between past and present, Ireland and Germany.
